At Moulds Family Vineyard, we’ve always believed that great wine isn’t just made in the cellar; it begins with a deep, unwavering respect for the land. But a piece of land, no matter how special, requires more than just stewardship. It requires a heart, a vision, and a dedicated pair of hands to truly flourish.
Today, we are bursting with pride to share some truly momentous news about the heart of our own vineyard operation.
We are thrilled to announce that our very own Vineyard Manager, Roberto, has been named the inaugural recipient of the 2025 Napa Valley Farmworker of the Year Award.
Honoring the Unsung Heroes of Napa Valley
Introduced this year by the Napa Valley Farmworker Foundation, the Farmworker of the Year Award is an annual honor celebrating an individual whose dedication, leadership, and excellence make a meaningful impact on Napa Valley’s vineyard workforce.
Across this valley, there are farmworkers who lead with skill, heart, and purpose every single day. This award was created to recognize those who elevate the profession through their example.
When we heard the description of what this award represents, we knew immediately who deserved to stand in that spotlight.
Roberto’s Journey: From Landscape Gardener to Viticulture Master
Roberto’s story is a powerful testament to what can be achieved through determination, curiosity, and a relentless work ethic.
His journey began far from the hills of Napa, in El Zanguarro, Guanajuato. When he first arrived in the valley, he began his career in landscaping. But it wasn’t long before he found his true passion among the vines. Driven by an eagerness to understand the “why” behind every viticultural practice, Roberto steadily rose through the ranks, transitioning from a skilled worker into a respected leader.
Opening Doors Through Education
A critical turning point in Roberto’s career came through his commitment to learning. Understanding that communication is key to leadership, he enrolled in English classes offered by the Napa Valley Farmworker Foundation.
Learning English opened new doors for him, allowing him to collaborate more closely with winemakers, participate confidently in viticulture advisor meetings, and lead our crews with clarity and certainty.
A Legacy of Mentorship and Giving Back
With 17 years of experience now under his belt, Roberto’s impact extends far beyond the rows of Cabernet Sauvignon at Moulds Family Vineyard.
He has become a true mentor within our community, sharing best practices with new crews and instilling a love for the earth in those around him. Roberto also volunteers his time within the community and serves on the Napa Valley Farmworker Foundation’s Education Committee, helping to shape the same programs that helped him grow.
His journey is a beautiful reminder that with opportunity and perseverance, farmworkers don’t just have jobs; they build strong careers, support their families, and inspire the next generation.
We are so honored to work alongside Roberto. He embodies the spirit of Moulds Family Vineyard, and this award is a richly deserved recognition of the incredible man he is.
